What's Hot Now: Nails with Celeb Manicurist Melissa Bozant

Recently, WLB had the chance to meet up with the fabulous Melissa Bozant, who pampers the hands and feet of Hollywood royalty, to find out "What's Hot Now" for Spring and Summer nails. Melissa's passion for nails began 25 years ago, when she started her career as a manicurist in South Central Los Angeles, mastering the art of acrylic nails for most of the 1980's. Melissa got her first big career opportunity at Burke Williams Salon and Day Spa, where she was often sent out to studios and on-call as the manicurist for many luxury hotels.

Today, Melissa is represented by Art Mix - LA Beauty (click to take a peek at her portfolio), and her devoted clientele include many A-List stars, such as: Angelina Jolie, Eva Mendes, Sheryl Crow, Rebecca Romjin, Mandy Moore, Gabrielle Union and countless others. Her print and editorial credits include InStyle Magazine, GQ, Vanity Fair, ELLE, British Vogue and many more. Melissa is also featured in Jessica Simpson's wedding book, I Do: Achieving Your Dream Wedding.

Melissa is a woman who loves the sparkles, the glitter and the glamour. "It's all about the glossy lacquer and the lowrider nails!" She exclaims. (Lowrider toes: a name she has dubbed for glittery polished nails). She tells us that there will be two nail trends that will be very prominent on the hands and feet of young starlets during the warmer months:

1. Bright hues and NEON colors. Melissa especially loves the neon lime colors for Spring and recommends any of the neon colors from the new INK Collection from China Glaze.

2. Melissa tells us that vamp nails will continue to be "in" even through Summer. Two of Melissa's most fave dark nail polish combos are: China Glaze Ruby Pumps (a very sparkly red color) over China Glaze Evening Seduction (a vampy purple color). Melissa tried this color combo on us, and we have to say, if you want dark-glitz this blend has the ultimate lowrider sparkle (we're kind-of obsessed). Melissa also mixes China Glaze Hot Lava Love (a shimmer) over China Glaze Rose Among Thorns (a neon creme red) on all of her clients.

Melissa makes sure to point out to us, that whenever you layer colors, make sure you apply the matte color first and then add the pearl, shimmer or sparkly color on top of the matte color. For the perfect application, Melissa explains: add Seche Base - Ridge Filling Base Coat first. This base coat acts as a primer that adheres lacquer to the nail. Next, add a regular base coat, then 2 coats of color and finish with 1 coat of Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat for a long-lasting manicure. Lastly, Melissa reminds us to regularly apply cuticle oil to keep cuticles properly hydrated and healthy and manicures beautiful.

Thanks Melissa for hanging out with us, and filling us in on all your nail tips, tricks and trends for the Spring and Summer!

I've never tried China Glaze nailpolish although I have heard about it. I own a plethora of polish (the top of my bathroom cabinet has three rows of polish lined up) and really do not need any more yet keep finding more colors I love. I guess one can never have TOO many nail colors. My favorite brand right now is O.P.I though. /Tina http://www.fashtastic.net
