Stylemaker Eyeshadow Picks for Fall

Fall Eyeshadow

In a recent poll we begged the question “what is your favorite eye product?” By majority vote it was clear that you are all devote fans of  shadows. We completely understand your affinity and we thought it would be fun to research the best of the best for fall. We called upon our celebrity stylemakers to find out what their favorite brands and colors are for the season. We are excited to share their enthusiastic responses. Read on.

PAUL STARR:

1. Chanel Les Quatre Ombres De Chanel - Eye Shadow Quad in:
A. LES DIVINES MATTES. "Love the very matte smoky colors." Smudge-proof. This quad includes a great burgundy color that he likes.

B. Limited Edition GARDEN PARTY. This quad has a fabulous emerald green, peach, pink and light green color. "I love a smoky eye with color...adds a twist to the traditional smoky eye."

2. Guerlain Ombre Eclat Duo & Liner in:
A. L'HEURE BRUNE - Brown shades
B. L'HEURE FUMEE - Smoky shades

"The palette comes with 2 shadows that you can mix together and a wet to dry complementary eyeliner"
You can line and define for a cat's eye effect, blend into the lash line and crease for a smoky result, and finish with a touch of shimmering highlight.

3. Estee Lauder Pure Color Eye Shadow in SEAGRASS.
"It is an odd green color - sort of a green and grey mix, but looks amazing when it is smudged with black eyeliner."

4. Dior Eye Show in 092 GLAM & GLITZ BLACK (a shimmering black)
"Use Dior Eye Show is you want a dramatic Edie Sedgwick look."
Dior Shadows go on smooth and blends effortlessly...long lasting waterproof finish, cream Eyeshadow

5. Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in SKINNY JEANS. (A metallic grey color).
"This do-it-all shadow lines, shades and contours your eyes with lovely crease-proof, smudge-proof formula." It is a buildable color, so you can go as sheer or as dramatic as you like. Cream to powder shadow.

Paul likes to line the eye with a black eyeliner pencil (his fave: Chanel Le Crayon Khol in Noir) first, and then smudge in the shadow. "The Chanel Eyeliner pencil has a good texture, is easy to smudge and is not too soft, so it stays put."

Paul says: "There are so many eye shadow options. Play with color! The black/grey dark smoky eye is classic, but it is fun to experiment with a colored smoky eye. Use and work with what is good for you."

MARY KLIMEK:

1. Mary Klimek is completely enamored with Benefit’s new Silky Powder Eye Shadows, "the texture and the application are truly superb." “They are incredibly silky and come in a beautiful range of neutral colors everyone can wear, perfect for fall.” “You have to touch it to experience just how amazing they are.” The silky smooth powders were developed to “smooth on” for even coverage and contour.

Mary’s fall favorites are; “GUESS AGAIN” (matte light neutral plum), “SOFT SHOULDER” (matte burnish peach), and “FISHNET” (matte dark brown).

2. When it comes to eye makeup, Mary is all about bold color. She recommends Laura Mercier shadows for color and for their amazing staying power. Her favorites for the season are the “beautiful blues and greenish teals” look for “SHERIDAZE” and “SAINT GERMAIN”.

3. Mary also tipped us off to LORAC’s Croc Palette, a good staple containing four shades of shadow and a soft, natural blush that anyone can wear.

Shades include shadows in MOONSTONE (soft champagne), SERENITY (peachy champagne bronze), GARNET (bronze), SUEDE (chocolate), and blush in Soul (burnished rose).

Mary could not discuss shadows without mentioning Dior. Dior Shadows have been a long time favorite and a constant in her kit. She also keeps Bobby Brown’s shimmer bricks on hand for natural light that can be used on everyone. She loves them for an all over natural look.

ELKE VON FREUDENBERG:

We asked Elke what her favorite fall eye looks were while working on the runway shows. She said color was big, especially blues, slates, cool tones, and greys. To make color more of a focus she suggested moving the color to the crease of the eye. She emphasized that the matte was the overarching trend of the season for all makeup, face, lips, and especially eyes. She suggested downplaying sparkle and playing up matte.

Shadow is an endless exploration of shades, textures, and wearability. We never get tired of trying new combinations, formulas and colors and we are incredibly inspired by the season's bold eyes. Let us know if you run off and try some of our stylemakers favorites. We want to hear what you love in return.

Lusting after those Chanel & Dior palettes. I'm currently using the Laura Mercier. She has really nice matte shadows.

I have owned the Lorac Croc palette for the last 2 years and am STILL wearing at least one shade every day. The blush has a matte sheer finish (in that order) and is completely seasonless. The top right shade is perfect for you light-eyed girls looking for a boost and the two bottom are contouring, one for work and one for play. It also (clearly) lasts FOREVER!

I am very interested in those Benefit silky powders. I love the campaign for those too, with the three girls in the different looks. So cute. They sound amazing.
