Meet the Talent: Colorist Marie Robinson

Marie takes pride in listening to her clients and discovering what each individual's specific needs may be. She always takes care in mixing shades that complement her client's skin tones in order to find the color(s) that best fits each person and their lifestyle. Marie was very kind to send in to WLB a few words about her life and her career:
"I grew up in Queens NY. I have an artistic background and found that hair color was a form of art that allowed me to achieve quick visual results. I also loved the feeling of making someone feel good about themselves. I started off as an assistant at the Pierre Michel salon in the Plaza Hotel where I've worked on many models perfecting my abilities. Pierre Michel was a popular salon at that time and it's where I began apprenticing with Danilo and Losi, who are still among the greats of freelance hairdressers. When Danilo could not tend to his celebrity clients, he would refer them to me. Pierre recognizing that I was getting many requests had decided to promote me to a full time colorist where I remained several years.
Feeling I could be exposed to more coloring techniques, I eagerly began working at the John Frieda Salon where I would assist 1 week a month with one of Europe's most talented celebrity colorists, Christophe Robin. As I was quickly becoming known for my corrective work, my clientle continued to grow and I began to concentrate on my own clientle.
During my 5 year period with John Frieda, I tended to models such as Eva Herzigova, Carolyn Murphy, Claudia Schiffer, Esther Canadas and musicians such as David Bowie, Kate Pierson, the Spice Girls, Bjork, Courtney Love and celebrities Elizabeth Hurley, Hillary Swank, Tara Reid, Mary Louise Parker. I worked with editorial hair stylist Serge Normant and also met Hollywood hairdresser Sally Hershberger who had joined our NY salon. Sally also became a client of mine and as I transferred from John Frieda to Bumble+Bumble, I was incredibly flattered that she followed me as a client.
I remained at Bumble + Bumble for three years, where I found it quite exciting to work with their hairdressers and I became very involved with their education program. My regular clients and my growing roster of celebrities began to include: Meg Ryan, Nichole Kidman, Natalie Portman, and Heather Graham.
For The past 4 years, I have been employed as head colorist of Sally Hershberger Downtown. The Sally Hershberger Downtown Salon is located in Manhattan's trendy meat packing district. Here, I teach classes for color apprentices, tend to my loyal clientle who have followed me to each location, and continue to color many celebrities such as Kate Bosworth, Liv Tyler, Rachel Weisz, Molly Shannon, Holly Hunter and Uma Thurman."
