Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe in "The Last Sitting"

Lindsay Lohan as Marilyn Monroe in "The Last Sitting"

I've been biting my tongue all month about this project. Paul Starr, our legendary celebrity makeup artist, told us he was working with one of his favorite muses, the infamous, Lindsay Lohan to turn her into Marilyn Monroe for NY Magazine.

We had to wait until the images to came out to talk about it, but you can imagine our excitement when we heard the editorial spread was a recreation of the famous 1962 series shot by Bert Stern known as "The Last Sitting".

Many consider these images to be some of the most iconic images ever created in pop culture. Sadly, Marilyn was found dead of a barbiturate overdose just six weeks after the images were snapped. Let's hope our wild Ms. Lohan takes a much healthier path.

We love this spread. Regardless of your opinions on Lindsay, you can't deny...she goes for it....and we love her for that. Check back soon for a "GET THE LOOK" article and inside scoop behind the shoot from Paul!

Lindsay made a remarkable recreation of the Marilyn shoot. It may help her career, IF there is a follow-up. What she needs are modern versions of the inexpensive money-making movies that established Marilyn's enduring sex appeal (like the "7 year Itch" or "How to Marry a Millionaire.") In case anyone is interested, I have a few ideas along this vein, as a writer and photo artist. Are you there Lindsay? I might be able to help you. Thanks Lindsay, Jim W. (703) 405-2377.

This irritates me so much. Marilyn Monroe is a HUGE icon. She was the most amazing woman of her time and to me is still one of the most amazing women. Recreating something that she did and having it turn out well is nearly impossible. No one can be Marilyn. Especially Lindsay Lohan. This impersonation was way out of her league.

I cant believe all the negative comments about LL! Forget your media fed bullshit opinions of Lohan and try to look at the photos with an open mind. She is deliciously divine. Brava, girl! Scrumpdivalicious!

You really shouldn't delete comments that you don't agree with!!! Lindsay is a spoiled brat and needs to serious help, not photo shoots and fauning insipid compliments. Lindsay is not Marilyn, Never will be!!! Might die tragically, if someone doesn't step in and get her the help she needs and deserves. In America, it is sad that we sacrifice people, so we might gleen some entertainment from their rise and fall.

she doesn't even look like monroe. lindsay's style has no reflection to the iconic figure except the fact that they both did drugs. different model better makeup and less chicken fat yellow hair. if your gonna do a tribute do it right. i don't buy it.

Total disgrace to Marilyn and the legeacy she left behind. Marilyn Monroe was classy and had taste, Lindsey, on the other hand, can't keep her nose away from the white stuff. Paul Starr never should have done this shoot, if your going to try and capture real beauty pick someone that actually has some.

Marylin Monroe was Voluptuous and much more beautiful in her pictures. Then you see Lindsay Lohan with her skinny ass on the cover. She only has some big boobs, but everything else is a no. She is anything , BUT Voluptuous. Her wig looks bad too.

No comparison...Lohan's facial features are nasty and she has the curves of a teenage boy.

As a mom, I've very sad that Lindsay Lohan felt the need to do this photo shoot. It is apparent that she has no one who really cares about her. And from a photographer's standpoint, wouldn't Charlise Theron been a more suitable choice? She has the look and more equivalent proportions. From a hairdresser's opinion, the wig is simply horrible, while the makeup is passable. I've loved Lindsay since the Parent Trap and being exploited like this at the tender age of 21 is just sickening.

I'm not a Lindsay hater by any means - I actually quite like her. But she doesn't even come close to capturing Marilyn's sensuality in these photos. They're a weak attempt by any stretch of the imagination. Check out the originals - she missed the mark by a mile in my opinion.

The makeup is the best thing about the photos (kudos to Paul). When I looked at the set I couldn't believe Bert Stern shot them...the original Marilyn photos had this mystery, this hazy sensuality about them, while the Lindsay photos look desperate somehow. I've never seen 21 look so tired, not to mention unbelievably sun-damaged. Plus, in some of the photos you can clearly see the edges of the wig...bad! Le sigh...there will never be another Marilyn.

Ehhhhh....while I applaud them both for a valiant effort, I am just not feeling those colors on her or that white wig. It all just seems a bit off for her natural red-headed coloring to me. www.themakeupgirlblog.com

Marilyn Monroe was a natural red head.. Lindsey and Monroe have many similarities people don't seem to realize. Fair skin, natural red hair, curves... drug use.. but I agree that the wig does look a tad off. I just wish they could've cut and dyed her hair to fit Marilyn Monroe's look.

Marilyn wasn't a redhead, she was a brunette/dark dirty blonde. Lindsay has ginger hair. Their body shapes are completely different...Lindsay is attractive if you style her properly but she cannot pull this look off..

Marilyn had blonde hair as a child and auburn hair as teen. Lindsay, unfortunately, looks like a man in these photos. She is too modern looking to pull this off.

A bad blonde wig and bedroom eyes do not a Marilyn Monroe make. Lindsay seems addicted to attention, yet she has little talent...so, I guess the only way to garner that attention is to get naked and pretend to be Marilyn Monroe?

I'm sure Lindsay will say in the interview that she identifies with Marilyn, as Marilyn is Hollywood's most notorious (and daddy-deprived) little girl lost.

I know this post is supposed to be about the "beauty" aspect of the pictures, and Paul Starr does an excellent job with the makeup, especially in the bottom shot (no pun intended)...but I think Lindsay would make a better Janis Joplin, what with the raspy voice and hard living; but again, Lindsay's "talent" and cultural relevance can't even compete.
