Get the Look: Mariah Carey in ELLE Magazine

Get the Look: Mariah Carey in ELLE Magazine

Our very own Celebrity Stylemaker and makeup master Paul Starr, was the man behind Mariah Carey's natural summer glow on the cover of August's ELLE Magazine. We had a chance to steal Paul away from his very busy schedule to learn all about how he created this breezy look for the glossy mag (and what products he used - of course)...and now we would like to share what we learned with you all. Read on to discover Paul's step-by-step process for creating Mariah's ELLE look:

SKIN:
Paul started by telling us that Mariah has "Absolutely gorgeous, flawless skin." Her skin needs hardly any prep because it is naturally luminous. All Paul used to prep Mariah's skin was a little bit of his staple, La Mer The Mist. "The highly charged waters in this refreshing mist help heal, hydrate and rebalance even the driest complexions...Marine and botanical extracts soothe surface irritations and gently relax dry lines to restore skin's appearance."

Next, Paul mixed a dab of Make Up For Ever High Definition Invisible Cover Foundation with Laura Mercier Bronzing Gel and blended it over Mariah's face with his makeup sponge for a soft, light, sheer bronzed effect.

BROWS:
Paul used his fave Le Sourcil De Chanel Perfect Brows Compact to shape Carey's arches. "The art of perfect brows is simplified with this all-in-one brow kit. Features three powder shades, mini tweezers and mini brush for professional results." Paul tells us this brow compact is a Must-Have item because it includes light, medium and dark shades that can be blended together to create any shade you desire.

EYES:
Paul lined Mariah's upper eyelid with Make Up For Ever - Eye Contours Eye Pencil in Black. And he smudged Make Up For Ever - Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil in Shimmering Plum along the bottom lash line. Paul added depth and dimension to Carey's eyes by blending a taupe eyeshadow from Make Up For Ever's - Matte Eyeshadow Palette collection across her eyelids.

To finish Mariah's eyes, Paul curled her lashes and applied Neutrogena® Weightless Volume® Mascara in Rich Black - to her top lashes only. Paul adores this mascara because it is 100% wax-free - so it creates soft full lashes without weighing them down with clumpy wax. He added a 2nd coat of mascara using, Make Up Forever Volume Mascara in #1 Black, to create even fuller lashes. Paul wanted Mariah's lashes and eyes to be the focal-point of the entire look.

Along Mariah's lower lashes, Paul applied one coat of Kevyn Aucoin - The Volume Mascara in Rich Black, which has a small, fine brush perfect for applying mascara to the lower lashes.

CHEEKS:
On Mariah's cheeks, Paul used Kevyn Aucoin - The Creamy Moist Glow in Tansoleil (a sheer apricot blush) which "creates a sheer wash of color on the cheeks. It gives a radiant youthful vitality to the skin and an instant healthy glow. This subtle blush is perfect for adding a slight flush of color." On top of the Kevyn Aucoin cream blush, Paul added NARS Blush (powder) in Orgasm (a peachy pink color with shimmer) for an added pop of color.

LIPS:
To complete Mariah's fresh look, Paul finished by lightly lining Mariah's lips with Make Up For Ever Aqua Lip Waterproof Lipliner Pencil in Nude Beige 1C (a light neutral beige) and then added By Terry Lip Gloss in Coral Pink (a colored balm) to hydrate, plump and create a shimmering finish to her pout.

Love this look and most of these products are favorites of mine! Mariah doesn't stray too far from her formula of great glowy skin + sheer berry cheeks + smoky eyes, but I love it! www.palacinka.com
