Get the Look: Amy Adams at the 2008 Oscars

Get the Look: Amy Adams at the 2008 Oscars

Two of our favorite Stylemakers, celebrity hairstylist, Mark Townsend and makeup artist Molly Stern were the masterminds behind Amy Adams flawless beauty for the 80th Annual Academy Awards. We had a chance to chat with both talents to get the inside scoop on what went down on the big day. Molly and Mark had a chance to see Amy's fabulous Proenza Schouler emerald gown the day before the Oscars (aka the "beauty Superbowl" -as Mark so passionately titles it) - to get a feel for what the best look for Amy would be. On the day of the awards, Molly, Amy and Mark gathered around and had an in depth discussion about her styling for the red carpet. Both, Mark and Molly were inspired by Amy's beautiful gown and wanted to play off of its classic glamour. "It was definitely a team effort. Amy loves the collaboration among her team of stylists. She truly appreciates and trusts the people she has around her who are responsible for creating her red carpet beauty," Mark explains. Mark and Molly were very kind to fill us in on the breakdown of Amy Adam's hair and makeup for a Get the Look:

GET THE LOOK - Hair - From Mark Townsend:
"For Amy Adams Oscar Hairstyle, I first applied Biolage Volumizing Whipped Mousse to her damp hair and blow dried with a Spornette Mixed Bristle Round Brush. Then I took 2 inch sections of her hair and sprayed Matrix Vavoom Gold Heat Iron-In Control Protective Dry Mist to the hair and curled each section with a 1 1/4" HAI elite Rod Curling Iron. I secured each curl with a hair clip and let the hair set while Molly did Amy's makeup.

After her makeup was finished, I took out all the hair clips and brushed out the hair. Next, I took some Biolage Molding Souffle in my hands and raked it through her hair to break up the curl and create some texture. It was a completely modern take on a classic hairstyle. The texture is what kept the hair looking fresh and young throughout the evening."
GET THE LOOK - Makeup - By Molly Stern:
    FACE:
    1. First, Molly prepped Amy's skin with Jurlique Rosewater Balancing Mist, A hydrating mist that restores, tones and hydrates, leaving the skin balanced and refreshed.

    2. Next, Molly applied La Mer The Moisturizing Lotion to Amy's entire face. The Moisturizing Lotion is a lighter version of La Mer's star product - Crème de la Mer. The moisturizer firms and softens skin and is tailored for people with normal to dry skin.

    3. Molly used a small amount of Chantecaille Total Concealer in Ivory only on areas where needed - such as under the eye area. The concealer covers dark circles and other blemishes and softens the appearance of fine lines, while illuminating the skin with light-reflecting particles.

    4. Molly applied a sheer wash of foundation over Amy's face. She used CoverGirl TRUblend Liquid Makeup in Natural Ivory. TruBlend Liquid Makeup blends easily for a naturally flawless look.

    5. On Amy's cheeks, Molly used NARS Cream Blush in Cactus Flower (a shimmery poppy color). NARS Cream Blush is a "moisture-rich cream finish formula that provides smooth, silky color for naturally luminous skin. Delivers long-lasting color with a velvety texture and blends easily for healthy glowing skin." Molly added Shu Uemura GLOW ON in Matte Amber 89 on top of the NARS Cream Blush to "Earth it up a little" on the apples of her cheeks.

    EYES:
    1. Molly wanted Amy's eyes to have a "light-handed" smoky look. Molly explains that she wanted to create a softer twist to a traditional smoky eye. Molly began with Vincent Longo Eye Shimmer Souffle in Copperleif (a copper color.) She split the eyelid into two parts and applied the Eye Shimmer Souffle to the outer corners of the eye. Eye "Shimmer Souffle gives the eye a sheer, dazzling veil of color."

    2. Next she applied NARS Cream Eyeshadow in Corfu (a shimmering taupe color) to the other half of the lid, while blending it with the Eye Shimmer Souffle.

    3. Along the outer corner of the eye, and over the Eye Shimmer Souffle, Molly applied Giorgio Armani Eye Shadow #7 (a taupe/rose color).

    4. Molly then applied Shu Uemura Pressed Eye Shadow in a Matte Earthy Gray/Brown to the inner corner of the eye over the NARS Cream Eyeshadow. She blended the colors together so there was an iridescent base with a matte layer of color on top.

    5. Molly used Trish McEvoy Eye Shadow in Glaze Lavender (a violet shimmer) as a liner along the top lash line and smudged.

    6. For mascara, Molly applied CoverGirl Professional Super Thick Lash Mascara in Brown #315 to the top and bottom lashes for a bold lash look.

    BROWS:
    1. Molly filled in Amy's brows using Cle de Peau Eyebrow Liner in Blonde, for a thick natural brow shape.

    LIPS:
    1. Molly finished Amy's makeup with CoverGirl Outlast All-Day Lipcolor in My Papaya #570. The papaya color added to the Earthy beauty-look Molly was going for - playing off of Amy's cool and relaxed personality. This CoverGirl lipstick provides brilliant coverage, shine and color that lasts up to 16 hours - perfect for a night spent on the red carpet.
