Get the Look: Jennifer Garner at the 2008 Oscars

Paul Starr on Jen Garner's Oscar Makeup:
1. What was your inspiration for Jen Garner's look?
"Jen has a deep sense of glamour and beauty. We wanted to create a classic look. I looked towards Grace Kelly and Audrey Hepburn as classic beauties for my inspiration for Jen's Oscar look. I also went through many old Academy Award books for inspiration. And I knew for sure that there would be NO matchy-matchy. To me, matching you makeup with your dress is dated."
2. Did Jen participate in creating the look or did she leave it in your hands?
"Jen is always so wonderful to work with. She is such a great woman. Very calm. Very chill. And completely comfortable with herself and her team. She puts a lot of trust in me and the rest of her team of stylists to create a beautiful look for her. Jen and I have been working together for the past 7 years - we have a great history. And Jen never looks in the mirror while I do her makeup. She lets me be free with what I envision for her."
3. What was the energy like while you were doing her makeup?
"Jen's team was at her house to help her prepare for the big night, including her publishers and managers. There was definitely a great energy throughout the getting-ready process - there was no reason to be nervous. We listened to great music. Everyone asked me what I was going to do for Jen's makeup and wanted to know if I was going to create her eyes like I did for the Juno Premiere or her lips from the VMA's, but I told them that I would be moving towards a new look. I don't like to repeat the same makeup look, its almost like wearing the same dress to two different events. If I have already created a certain beauty look, I want to be challenged to explore something new and different from what I have done in the past."
4. Was it fun working with celebrity hairstylist Adir Abergel?
"I adore Adir Abergel. He has a wonderful soul and an amazing talent. And we always work really well together."
Adir Abergel on Jen Garner's Oscar Hair:
1. What was the energy like during the getting ready process? Was it fun working with Paul Starr?
"The energy while creating Jen's look was very mellow and chill. Jen was how she always is, completely relaxed. She has a beautiful soul. And working with Paul is always amazing, he brings so much to the table. He is a genius at what he does and a wonderful person to work with because we work so well together. It was a totally fun afternoon. We were finished with the makeup, hair and styling within an hour AND we finished early...and we never finish early! So, it was a very chill afternoon."
2. Did she participate in creating the look for her hair? Or did she leave it in your hands?
"Jen put on her dress and Paul and I talked about what we wanted to do with her hair and makeup. Paul and I talked about the idea of duality and texture. I wanted to create a hairstyle that matched this idea - I was inspired by the two very different textures in Jen's Oscar gown. Jen and I decided on a dual textured style; Edwardian with a romantic feel and a modern slash bang. So the front of her hair (the bangs) was smooth, while the back was left with a natural texture."

GET THE LOOK - Hair:
1. To get the look, Adir started by applying from roots to ends Frederic Fekkai Coiff Shape and Set Mist. "Hands down his favorite product ever!" Adir exclaims.
2. He then parted the hair for a severe side part, hiding all of Jen's short bangs.
3. He applied Neutrogena Triple Moisture Healing Shine Serum to the ends of the front of the hair for smoothness and shine around the face.
4. He then blow-dried the hair with his T3 Tourmaline Ionic Blow Dryer - The Featherweight. He blow-dried the hair in small sections with a round brush and pinned each section back.
5. Once the hair was set (in about 10 minutes), Adir curled Jen's entire head with the 1" FHI Ceramic Curling Iron.
6. He then sprayed some Sheer Hold Hairspray by Frederic Fekkai and pinned all her hair back into a low deconstructed bun, making sure to leave the side bang out to frame the face.
Adir says: "The secret to this hairstyle is to have the duality in textures between the front and the back of the hair. The front being heavy and strong with a shiny side part bang and the back being a bit more romantic, undone and messy."
