Ask the Celebrity Stylemaker: Sugar Wax

Ask the Celebrity Stylemaker: Sugar Wax

Eyebrows are a hot topic and with fall just around the corner it’s time to check the beauty routine and get those brows in shape. The definition of eyebrows can change your entire look and as the trend changes to thicker, more shapely brows, it might be time to put down the tweezers and head for the salon. Now we know the thought of waxing puts fear in the hearts of some, so we decided to ask fellow blogger and celebrity stylemaker, Elke Von Freudenberg her advice on achieving the perfect brow

Elke’s services are so highly sought after she has become bi-coastal; flying between NY and LA for celebrity clients, high-profile projects, and her signature brow wax services. We wanted to know why people fly from all around the country to see Elke for a custom brow wax when she’s in NY. The answer; sugar wax.

Sugar wax is a simple mixture of water, lemon and sugar that is applied as a warm paste rather than a hot dripping wax. Instead of the piece of cloth and hot wax sticking to both the skin and the hair like traditional waxes, the sugar wax allows the cloth to stick only to the hair. This means that the hair is pulled out directly from the root, rather than pulling the skin and then the hair. Elke gushed about the countless reasons that this simple difference makes sugar wax brilliant.

For one, it doesn’t have to go on piping hot, so you won’t have to go on your first date with two small burn crescents above your eyes. Secondly, because it’s a warm paste that can be dissolved in water, it can be maneuvered easily, allowing your esthetician to perfect the shape rather than the one shot deal with hot wax. Cleaning it off with water means it doesn’t have to be cleaned with oil, which might clog your shocked wide open pores, creating those lovely red bumps on your face. All in all there is decidedly less redness due to the lack of heat and the non-pulling of the skin, making achieving the perfect brow a much sweeter process.

PS. The sugar wax is so much softer than regular wax, that a salon down the way from her in NY is offering sugar waxes for men’s bikini area. Hmm, smooth operator just took on a whole new meaning.
