Amber Tamblyn: Independent Spirit Awards

Get This Celebrity Look: Amber Tamblyn
David Gardner

1. Begin with clean, freshly shampooed wet hair. Gently blow dry hair on low heat until lightly damp [always do this, it's from damp to dry that you're actually setting the hair].

2. Starting in the front, take a 2'' section (the width of a medium velcro roller) using a round brush, brush through the hair from scalp to ends, lightly spray a volumizing product, (David Gardner Hair: Hot Body was used on Amber) finishing with hair wrapped a round the brush
rolling away from the face.

3. Next, pick up your hair dryer, on low heat and speed, and blow the hair wrapped around the brush. When the hair gets too hot, put the dryer down, unroll the section, brush through a couple times, re-roll down as before, pick up the dyer and repeat.

4. When this section is completely dry and still hot, quickly replace the brush with a velcro roller and secure it with a bobby-pin.IT IS FROM HOT TO COLD, DAMP TO DRY THAT SETS THE HAIR.

5. Repeat these simple steps all over the head working in sections away from the face toward the nape of the neck. The larger the roller the looser the curl will be.

6. Once all of your rollers are in girls, do your makeup, polish your nails, feed the cat, pick out an outfit, get dressed...in fact, do everything else you need to do before getting in the car...because for maximum sex-kitten effect, all you need to do is take the rollers out, run your fingers through your hair, throw your body forward, shake and throw your body back, kiss yourself in the mirror and go!

When I saw the photos of her at this event, I must have stared at them for 5-10 solid minutes. The hair and makeup are amazing despite, or perhaps due to, their simplicity. I love a voluminous, sweeping long bang and, as fond as I am of a chocolately brunette, this softer hair and eyebrow color on her really works. This look really bumped Amber up a few notches from a very pretty though modest look to full-on radiant, sexy, contemporary and youthful without sacrificing anything about who she is. I know I'm gushing but I think it's really well done. :)
